As the secondary writer on this brilliant and soon to be widespread forum, I would like to voice my own concerns about the presents given after the bonds of holy matrimony. First of all, it is difficult to exchange gifts with someone when the gifts are bought from the same communal pool. "I am going to buy you the nicest gift in the world, and it will only cost us the first year of our son's preschool tuition!" The concept is just not right. Second of all, when my wife buys everything for herself (with that same communal money, mind you) it is difficult to buy her something that perhaps she just hadn't thought of buying for herself yet.
